Symphony Hill - Reserve Pinot Noir 2008

Vital stats:

Winery - Symphony Hill
Grape - Pinot Noir (Reserve)
Vintage - 2008
Region - Granite Belt, Queensland, Australia

We purhcased this wine on a recent trip to the Granite Belt.  As fans of the light style of Pinot Noir we were under no illusion that this area would not be amendable to the grape with the rocky soils and often high temperatures being more suited to big bold shiraz.

However we were excellently surprised by the range and quality of wines being produced at Symphony Hill.  This Reserve Pinot Noir is made in the light style of Pinot Noir and is a good example of this style, despite the slightly higher alcohol content.  The unique landscape of this winery, in a hollow with surrounding hills, provided a different set of climactic conditions to the rest of the wineries in the region, resulting in vastly different wines.
